The Law Commission The Law Commission is an independent, government-funded organisation, which reviews areas of the law that need updating, reforming or developing. It makes recommendations to Parliament, and these recommendations are published in its report series. The Law Commission helps ensure that laws provide effectively for the current and future needs of our rapidly changing society. Its goal is to achieve law that is just, principled, accessible, and reflects the heritage and aspirations of the peoples of New Zealand. On this website is background information about what the Law Commission does as well as information on its current activities and publications. Details about purchasing publications or downloading them free of charge are on the Publications pages. Our latest media releases and speeches given by Commissioners are available on the News pages.
